Position overview
The Mechanic, within the Team at Porsche Engineering, is responsible for maintenance, servicing and reparation of the Complete Vehicle Validation and Assurance fleet in the metropolitan area of California on public roads, according to Porsche’s proprietary testing systems and methodologies. The vehicles descend from Porsche’s development process and reflect the current quality and development levels of the corresponding model ranges. As the vehicles mature, it is necessary to update the vehicles, especially with regards to the software and hardware, in order to ensure that any findings and/or complaints arise from the latest, released versions and are thus relevant. The main task is to keep the vehicles in a roadworthy condition by maintaining and servicing the fleet throughout the Quality Assurance activities and others, according to cyclic specifications or individual service intervals. This also includes documentation and communication of anomalies, complaints, findings, and performed activities.
The salary range for this role is $71,000 - $99,000. However, it is important to note that at Porsche, compensation range is dependent on geographic location. Individual salaries within each range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skillset. Porsche reviews compensation regularly and may adjust base salaries to reflect market competitiveness.

Physical requirements
- Comfortable with physical exertion for 4 - 6 hour intervals
- Comfortable standing and walking for 4 - 6 hour intervals
- Ability to travel long distances in aircraft or via automobile (5+ hours)
- This job operates in an automotive workshop and office environment. This role routinely uses standard workshop equipment such as (power) tools, hoists, high-pressure cleaners, OEM-specific tools, cameras, phones and photocopiers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, automotive parts at operational temperature and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job site can be loud.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, move, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift.

Roles & responsibilities
- Timeliness performance of service and maintenance work, according to vehicle-individual service intervals
- Perform (hardware) updates, cross-checks or technical measures on the vehicles, based on various sensors, including: repetitive failures/findings reported by market-specific drivers, the Quality Assurance teams worldwide and other sources of Quality and Engineering
- Commissioning/decommissioning of all vehicles upon arrival/departure
- Readout of traces and fault memories (consolidated measurement data) with Porsche’s proprietary testing systems and software
- Perform recurring (visual) inspections to ensure roadworthiness and operability of the Complete Vehicle Validation and Assurance fleet at all times
- Monitor vehicle wear and tear in consideration of the development maturity level
- Procurement and administration of manufacturer-specific service parts, maintenance parts, wear and tear parts, lubricants or other operating materials
- Responsibility and management of all workshop-related (special) tools, equipment and the workshop itself
- Operational coordination of workshop order management in a supportive function for the Project Management
- Collaboration and management of an adequate tow truck company for vehicle recovery, of (confidential and secret) prototypes at all times
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
- Minimum requirement is a certification as an Automotive Mechatronician / Automobile Mechanic and four+ years work experience in fields related to Automotive Technologies
- Additional certifications in Automotive Engineering can be used toward experience requirements
- Expert mechanical skills and keen attention to detail
- Advanced knowledge of Complete Vehicle Systems and Automotive Technologies
- Advanced knowledge with associated diagnostic tools
- Proficiency with planning and scheduling work orders
- Confident with identifying, distributing and managing spare-parts and other operating materials
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with Porsche’s proprietary testing systems and methodologies is a plus, such as PIDT, PUDiS, PPN, PCSS, Cluu, etc.
- Basic German speaking
- Prior experience with the German language and culture
- Ideal candidates are tenacious, persistent, well-organized, flexible to adapt to various forms of challenges, process oriented and work well within a group
